The Science of Positive Thinking
Those who still needed scientific proof to believe that happiness is a precursor to success have their request answered. Shawn Achor, a Harvard scientist, published a book that provides scientific data that happiness is a key element to professional success. The same philosophy has been used - without the scientific proof - for millennia: from the Stoics, to the teachings of Jesus and Buddha, to the New Thought philosophy wise men have argued that happiness is a result of enjoying life's small things, not being emotionally attached to life's ups and downs, mastering your desires, performing your duties without expectations of rewards, and learning to think clearly about yourself and your relations with the larger community of mankind.
Shawn Achor's book The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work. gives the scientific explanation of these ancient teachings - think in terms of MRI's and CAT scan.
Here is a three-part presentation by Achor on the Science of Happiness.
