Tech Gadgets Win TV Product Placements

The other day, I was watching a new episode of Hawaii Five-O (on Comcast's On Demand), when my eyes caught a Bing search one of the characters was doing. It was very fake and an obvious product placement: the freeze screen on the LG phone with Bing loading was pretty lame. But, it worked: I noticed it. Maybe because I pay attention to these things, maybe because the advertisers' trick worked.

Few days later, I got my Advertising Age newsletter. One of the front page articles: Product placements on TV series. Specific example: the Hawaii Five-O Bing/LG episode.

I suppose product placements are replacing the traditional ads, which nobody is watching anymore. After all, I was watching it On Demand...
