Is Technology Overwhelming for Small Business Owners? Four Tips To Easy The Pain

According to USA Today, small business owners seem to be overwhelmed by technology, so much so that they spend more than two hours a week dealing with technology issues.

Technology can indeed be overwhelming, especially for the less savvy entrepreneurs. Between social networks, operating system updates, and individual applications issues, one can spend a lot longer than the two hours a week.

Here some tips on how to deal with it:

  1. Hire an IT Consultant you can trust. There are a lot of small IT consulting firms who can understand your pain and have the expertise to fix your IT issues fast. While your teenage son might be free, he might not understand all the issues you facing.
  2. Ask before you buy. New gadgets and new software that promise to save you money or time might be appealing, but might not necessarily solve your real needs. Ask questions, talk to other people who might share the same pain. Research before you buy. Ask for a trial version. This will give you the opportunity to make sure it is the right product for you. Caution: Don't spend time endlessly trying new applications and gadgets. It will cost you a lot more in lost time and opportunity than staying with the status quo.
  3. Make a list of issue and patterns. This will make it a lot easier and faster for an IT consultant to replicate and fix the problems.
  4. Price vs. quality. While we are all looking for free or inexpensive products to solve our issues, sometimes it's wise to go with a little pricier, but more reliable solution. Your IT consultant should make the right recommendation for you.
