Twitter's Promoted Trends - Update

In April, Twitter announced "Promoted Tweets". This was their way of - finally - making some money. Although, Twitter is growing a lighting speeds, it still has to make money. The company used the "totally free" model and now is looking at the best way to leverage the huge number of people using its services.
Recently, Twitter announced an extension to the Promoted Tweets: Promoted Trends. Here is how it works: "Advertisers will be able to insert their own terms into the list oftrends Twitter displays on users’ homepages (see image below; click toenlarge) and on its login page. Clicking on a term would call up aTwitter search results page, which would feature the associatedadvertiser’s “promoted tweet” at the top of the results".
The program has yet to be tested and it still needs to solve some issues, like managing spam and deciding who sees the trend.
