The World Of iPads
The iPad hit the international markets over the weekend and the company estimates selling over 1.7 million units by the end of June.
Apple products always created enormous accessory and application markets. Just think of the number of iPod cases, speakers, and earphones out there. Or the 200,000 and counting iPhone apps. Not surprisingly, there is already a market for iPad accessories. Most items are carrying case. They range from pretty standard looking cases, to iPad compatible clothing (read: clothes with pockets big enough to fit the device), to maxi pads called iMaxi. Yes, they look like the personal hygiene one, except that they are oversized and fold into a protective case for the iPad. Even Louis Vuitton has not one but several offerings ranging from over $300 to over $1800 for the crocodile version. (Louis Vuitton claims Steve Job was completely shocked to learn that a case cost 3 times more than the device itself).
You can find the artsy ones on Etsy , the clothing on Scottevest. Liz Claiborne's Kate Spade, Andy Spade, and Tumi are only few designers and manufacturers who are launching new iPad accessories.
