5 Ways Small Businesses Can Use Technology To Save Money

Saving money and maximizing the use ofexisting funds is always on small business owners' mind.Mashable , the leading social media blog, suggested five ways tosave money by leveraging technology:

  1. Go paperless - besides being green, a paperless office saves money in supplies and staff.
  2. Go distributed - using internet-based phones (such as, VoIP) and connections will allow you to hire staff who can work from home (at least, in a part-time basis). In exchange for flexibility, they might be willing to take a pay-cut.
  3. Go open source - that will save you tons of money in professional version software. Google Docs, GnuCash (a QuickBooks equivalent), and GIMP (a Photoshop equivalent) are just few free tools that can still help you run your business smoothly, but without breaking the piggy bank.
  4. Go beta - a lot of software companies offer either free or discounted versions of their software to those who are willing to try their software and give them feedback. This is not only a great way to have an upper hand at the latest technology, but also to solve your business issues with very or no money.
  5. Go social - social media is a free way to market your business. Facebook, Twitter are only couple of popular tools where millions of people congregate.
