Thanks to free or inexpensive social media tools, direct marketing is going DIY. This is the result of expensive agency costs, necessity, and easy access to technology and tools. From "Living room concerts" instead of physical concerts, to self-promotion for the books you wrote (driving around the country in an RV, while your out-of-work friend is making calls to local bookstores), to in-home chocolate workshops or private parties are just few techniques independent professionals and small companies have used to promote their business.
